Sunrise; Sunset....

Retirement is being able to watch the sunrise without panic setting in as you contemplate a full day of work without enough sleep!  I am still trying to establish a rhythm of sorts for my retirement day and my body decided that might start at 3:30 AM today!  Rather than fight it I decided to go with it.  The sun has now risen and the birds are rejoicing.  I can hear the quail crowing in the bushes and the songbirds are just starting to herald the day.  We seem perched in the midst of a bird strata rather than the 55+ community officially announced at our gate!  Quail visit regularly and now they are bringing their children along for the community strut.  Little Chats (considered rare so I feel doubly blessed) bob in between the tile rooftops, their yellow breasts promising more sunshine today.  Bluebirds sing along the fence line and of course our resident humming birds buzz in and out of our yard daily.  The rose-breasted thrush sing like nightingales and blend in a lovely cacophony of warbling and tweeting.  I am no way near becoming educated in identifying the many species of songbirds gracing our backyard on any given day, but I am amazed at their variety and energy!  So, as the rosy glow of the mountain sunrise creeps into the valley, I just have to say I am happy to be retired today!

  2. Thanks Barbara. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have - minus the 3 AM stint, of course!

  4. Somehow I came upon your blog today and have been enjoying reading about your road to retirement! My hubby and I both retired five months ago and moved back to Canada from Washington state. Stress? Oh my yes! It's all good though and we are enjoying settling in to the retirement life. Since summer arrived I've been regularly waking up at 4:30-5:00 every morning. What a joy it is to greet the morning with a day full of possibilities ahead instead of dreading another day at the office! I look forward to following along on your journey.

    1. Thanks, Linda. I am always excited when someone new stops by! We were in Washington this month - got trapped by the forest fires and had to detour all the way to the coast and then back into Canada! I have never been an early morning person but truly, it is one of the most spectacular times of the day - that and evening! I would love to share my journey with you!
